DEALING WITH OILY SKIN

It is believed that oily skin ages slowly, with fewer wrinkles. Plus, managing oily skin is pretty easy. Here are a few lifestyle hacks for living with oily skin.
Be Gentle
You may be tempted to wash off all that excess oil repeatedly. But over-washing strips your face of the oils it needs, and only triggers more oil production! Stick to washing your face twice a day, with a gentle face wash.
Exfoliating too much will also push your skin to produce more oil. So, only exfoliate once or twice a week, with a mild cleanser.
Use only lukewarm water for washing, since hot water will irritate the skin further. Make sure your scrubs and towels are soft, too!
Use Makeup in Moderation
Using long-wear foundations, concealers, or heavy makeup can do more harm than good by clogging your pores. Try keeping your skin bare and free to breathe on some days. And always remember to remove your makeup before you sleep!
To reduce shine, try using blotting papers/tissues/paper towels to absorb oil. They work like a charm without clogging your pores!
Befriend Moisturisers
People with oily skin often shy away from moisturisers, fearing that their skin will become greasier. Bad idea! Moisturising your skin is essential if you want it to be healthy. Choose an oil-free moisturiser to keep your skin non-greasy and hydrated. For best results, apply moisturiser once or twice a day, within three minutes of washing your face.
Eat Healthy
Your diet can make or break your skin! Avoid saturated fats (oily, fried, junk food) and eat more of the good fats – omega-3 fatty acids – which is found in nuts, dry fruits, seeds, eggs, and fish. Sugary food (like that dessert after every meal) can also cause oily skin, so stay clear!
Choose the Right Products
Choosing gentle, oil-free, and non-comedogenic (meaning it won’t clog your pores) products is winning half the battle against oily skin. Avoid astringents, harsh soaps, and alcohol-based products because these can irritate the skin and cause breakouts. Always test a small sample of a product before including it in your skincare routine.

CAUSES OF OILY SKIN

Dealing with oily skin is a slippery slope. Here’s how to handle oily skin flawlessly.
Gorgeous in the morning, and greasy in the afternoon – sounds familiar? You’re not alone! Tons of people share the oily skin type – which means the sebaceous (oil-producing) glands of your skin are overactive. Our skin needs a small amount of oil to stay soft and moisturised. But when the sebaceous glands produce more oil than required, the end result is shiny, greasy skin.
Usually, your hormones decide how much oil these glands will produce (which is why most people have to deal with oily skin in their teenage years)!
Other than that, your skin may also get oily because of:
  • Your menstrual cycle – also related to hormones
  • Genetic factors
  • Physical or emotional stress
  • Warm or humid weather
  • Using too much makeup or harsh products
  • Touching your face a lot
  • Eating too many sugary foods.

CAUSES OF HERPES

The herpes simplex virus is a contagious virus that can be passed from person to person through direct contact. Children will often contract HSV-1 from early contact with an infected adult. They then carry the virus with them for the rest of their lives.

HSV-1

Infection with HSV-1 can happen from general interactions such as:
  • eating from the same utensils
  • sharing lip balm
  • kissing
The virus spreads more quickly when an infected person is experiencing an outbreak. Anywhere from 30 to 95 percent of adults are seropositive for HSV-1, though they may never experience an outbreak. It’s also possible to get genital herpes from HSV-1 if someone who performed oral sex had cold sores during that time.

HSV-2

HSV-2 is contracted through forms of sexual contact with a person who has HSV-2. It is estimated that around 20 percent of sexually active adults are infected with HSV-2. While HSV-2 infections are spread through contact with a herpes sore, it is assumed that most people get HSV-1 from an infected person who is asymptomatic, or does not have sores.Call 9004839333 for appointments.Visit our clinics at Malad,Juhu and Bandra in Mumbai.

PRICKLY HEAT RASH

Prickly heat rash, also called miliaria, is a rash that can develop after a person sweats far more than usual and sweat glands become blocked.

Babies and children can also get prickly heat rash during hot or humid weather because their sweat glands are not fully developed.

Prickly heat causes an itchy rash of small red raised red spots with a prickling or stinging sensation.

Prickly heat usually affects parts of the body covered by clothes, such as the back, abdomen, neck, upper chest, groin or armpits.
Prickly heat usually clears up on its own within a few days. However, in serious cases heat rash can interfere with the body's heat-regulating mechanism and cause heat exhaustion.
Heatstroke  is a more serious condition when the body can no longer cool itself. This is a medical emergency.

What causes prickly heat rash?

Heat rash begins with excessive perspiration, usually in a hot, humid environment. The perspiration makes it easier for dead skin  cells and bacteria on the skin  to block the sweat glands, forming a barrier and trapping sweat beneath the skin, where it builds up, causing the characteristic bumps. As the bumps burst and sweat is released, there may be a prickly, or stinging sensation that gives this condition its name.

What are the symptoms of heat rash?

Small, itchy red bumps on the skin are the symptoms of heat rash. The rash may feel prickly, stinging or burning.

WHAT IS ALOPECIA?

Alopecia areata is "a common condition of undetermined etiology characterized by circumscribed, nonscarring, usually asymmetric areas of baldness on the scalp, eyebrows, and bearded portion of the face."
In the majority of cases, hair falls out in small patches around the size of a quarter. For most people, the hair loss is nothing more than a few patches, though in some cases it can be more extreme.
Sometimes, it can lead to the complete loss of hair on the scalp (alopecia totalis ) or, in extreme cases, the entire body (alopecia universalis).
Alopecia areata is considered to be an autoimmune disease, where the immune system mistakenly attacks the body's own cells instead of harmful foreign invaders.
In the case of alopecia areata, the immune system attacks the hair follicles causing inflammation, which leads to hair loss. For appointments call 9004839333,Clinics at Malad,Juhu and Bandra in Mumbai.

RINGWORM

Tinea corporis refers to ringworm of the trunk, legs, or arms. Different fungi cause tinea corporis in different parts of the world. It's common for this infection to originate in the feet or nails, then spread to other body parts. It may spread to the:
·         feet,
·         scalp,
·         groin, or
·         nails.
When fungus affects the skin of the body, it often produces the round spots of classic ringworm, which is characterized by a red ring of scaly skin that grows outward as the infection spreads. Though children are especially susceptible to catching ringworm, it can affect adults as well.

Acute and Chronic Ringworm of the Body

Tinea corporis can be acute or chronic. When acute, the fungus causes suddenly appearing, itchy, red patches that may fill with pus and spread rapidly. When chronic, tinea corporis spreads by slightly inflamed rashes more slowly, and tends to appear in body folds. Widespread chronic tinea corporis is harder to treat and is more likely to reappear. For appointments for treatments of any skin, hair and nail ailments call 9004839333.Clinics at Malad,Juhu and Bandra in Mumbai.

SCABIES

Scabies is a skin condition caused by an infestation of the human itch mite called Sarcoptes scabiei. These microscopic mites burrow into the skin and cause symptoms of itching and rash.
Anyone can get scabies. It is found all over the world and the mite is transmitted by direct and prolonged skin-to-skin contact with a person who has scabies. Sexual contact is the most common way scabies is transmitted. Transmission can also happen from parents to children, particularly mother-to-infant. The mite can only survive about 48 to 72 hours without human contact, so it is uncommon, though possible, for scabies to spread through infested bedding or furniture. Scabies mites can only live about 72 hours without human contact, but once on a person, the mites can live up to two months. Mites survive longer in colder conditions with higher humidity. Once on a person, mites can burrow into the skin, and symptoms usually begin three to six weeks after infestation.
Symptoms of scabies are usually itching (which tends to be more intense at night), and a pimple-like rash. Scabies rash can appear on any part of the body, but the most common sites are wrists, elbows, armpits, the skin between the fingers and toes and around the nails, and skin usually covered by clothing such as the buttocks, belt line, nipples, and penis. Infants and young children may have scabies rash on their head, face, neck, palms, and soles.
In some patients with weakened immune systems, scabies rash may become crusted. For  treatment and appointments call 9004839333.Clinics at Malad,Juhu and Bandra in Mumbai.

PIGMENTATION

Normal skin contains cells called melanocytes. These cells produce Melanin, the substance that gives skin its color.
Skin with too much melanin is called hyperpigmented skin.
Skin with too little melanin is called hypopigmented skin.
Pale skin areas are due to too little melanin or underactive melanocytes. Darker areas of skin (or an area that tans more easily) occurs when you have more melanin or overactive melanocytes.
Bronzing of the skin may sometimes be mistaken for a suntan. This skin discoloration often develops slowly, starting at the elbows, knuckles, and knees and spreading from there. Bronzing may also be seen on the soles of the feet and the palms of the hands. The bronze color can range from light to dark (in fair-skinned people) with the degree of darkness due to the underlying cause.

Causes

Causes of hyperpigmentation include:
·         Skin inflammation (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation)
·         Use of certain drugs (such as minocycline and birth control pills)
·         Endocrine diseases such as Addison disease
·         Hemochromatosis (iron overload)
·         Sun exposure
·         Pregnancy
Causes of hypopigmentation include:
·         Skin inflammation
·         Certain fungal infections (such as tinea versicolor)
·         Pityriasis alba
·         Vitiligo
·         Certain medicines
·         Skin condition called idiopathic guttate hyomelanosis

SYMPTOMS OF HERPIS

Most people do not have apparent symptoms for many months, or even years after becoming infected. Those who do have symptoms during the initial period will usually notice them about 4-7 days after being infected.

Primary infection symptoms

Primary infection is a term used for an outbreak of genital herpes that occurs when a person is first infected.
Primary infection symptoms, if they are experienced, are usually more severe than later recurrences.
Symptoms can last up to 20 days and may include:
§  Blisters and ulceration on the cervix
§  Vaginal discharge
§  Pain when urinating
§  High temperature (fever)
§  Malaise (feeling unwell)
§  Cold sores around the mouth
§  Red blisters - these are generally painful; they soon burst and leave ulcers on the external genital area, thighs, buttocks, and rectum
In most cases, the ulcers will heal, and the patient will not have any lasting scars.

CAUSES OF ALLERGY

The risk of an allergic reaction is dependent on either host or environmental factors. An allergy is dependent on its host when the person is genetically predisposed for that allergy, either through inherited disease or congenital deficiency. An environmentally-dependent allergy is triggered when the person comes in contact with an infectious disease, an airborne allergen, pollution, or if they change their diet.

Genetic Causes

A parent with an allergy is more likely to pass it to their child, and the child's allergy is also likely to be more severe. Identical twins will share the same allergy 70% of the time.

Environmental Causes

A person is more likely to suffer from an allergy if they live in a highly industrialized country, such as factory-heavy regions. On the national level, allergies are more common in an individual that lives in an urban area as opposed to a rural area.

VITILIGO

Vitiligo is a disorder in which white patches of skin appear on different parts of the body. This happens because the cells that make pigment (color) in the skin are destroyed. These cells are called melanocytes .Vitiligo can also affect the mucous membranes (such as the tissue inside the mouth and nose) and the eye.

What Are the Symptoms of Vitiligo?

White patches on the skin are the main sign of vitiligo. These patches are more common in areas where the skin is exposed to the sun. The patches may be on the hands, feet, arms, face, and lips. Other common areas for white patches are:
·         The armpits and groin (where the leg meets the body)
·         Around the mouth
·         Eyes
·         Nostrils
·         Navel
·         Genitals
·         Rectal areas.
People with vitiligo often have hair that turns gray early. Those with dark skin may notice a loss of color inside their mouths. It is advisable to consult your nearest dermatologist for treatment. For more information and queries call 9004839333 .Clinics at  Malad,Juhu and Bandra in  Mumbai.
