It is believed that oily skin ages slowly,
with fewer wrinkles. Plus, managing oily skin is pretty easy. Here are a few
lifestyle hacks for living with oily skin.
Be Gentle
You may be tempted to wash off all that excess
oil repeatedly. But over-washing strips your face of the oils it needs, and
only triggers more oil production! Stick to washing your face twice a day, with
a gentle face wash.
Exfoliating too much will also push your skin
to produce more oil. So, only exfoliate once or twice a week, with a mild
cleanser.
Use only lukewarm water for washing, since hot
water will irritate the skin further. Make sure your scrubs and towels are
soft, too!
Use Makeup in Moderation
Using long-wear foundations, concealers, or
heavy makeup can do more harm than good by clogging your pores. Try keeping
your skin bare and free to breathe on some days. And always remember to remove
your makeup before you sleep!
To reduce shine, try using blotting
papers/tissues/paper towels to absorb oil. They work like a charm without
clogging your pores!
Befriend Moisturisers
People with oily skin often shy away from
moisturisers, fearing that their skin will become greasier. Bad idea!
Moisturising your skin is essential if you want it to be healthy. Choose an
oil-free moisturiser to keep your skin non-greasy and hydrated. For best
results, apply moisturiser once or twice a day, within three minutes of washing
your face.
Eat Healthy
Your diet can make or break your skin! Avoid
saturated fats (oily, fried, junk food) and eat more of the good fats – omega-3
fatty acids – which is found in nuts, dry fruits, seeds, eggs, and fish. Sugary
food (like that dessert after every meal) can also cause oily skin, so stay
clear!
Choose the Right Products
Choosing gentle, oil-free, and non-comedogenic
(meaning it won’t clog your pores) products is winning half the battle against
oily skin. Avoid astringents, harsh soaps, and alcohol-based products because
these can irritate the skin and cause breakouts. Always test a small sample of
a product before including it in your skincare routine.
