DANDRUFF

Flakes and an itchy, scaly scalp are the main symptoms of dandruff. White, oily flakes typically accumulate in your hair and on your shoulders and often get worse during the fall and winter months air, when the is dry.
Here are a few common culprits:
·       irritated and oily skin, a condition also known as seborrheic dermatitis (a more severe form of dandruff)
·       not shampooing enough, which causes skin cells to accumulate and create flakes and itching
·       yeast called malassezia, which aggravate your scalp and cause excess skin cell growth
·       different personal care products may cause contact dermatitis, which makes your scalp red and itchy
Men develop dandruff more frequently than women. People who tend to have oilier hair or live with certain illnesses (such as Parkinson’s disease or HIV) are also at higher risk. You may have started to notice symptoms around puberty, but dandruff can develop at any age.For all skin, hair and nail ailments visit our clinics at Malad,Juhu and Bandra in Mumbai.Call 9004839333 for appointment.

WRINKLES

Exposure to ultraviolet light through sunbathing, tanning booths, and outdoor sports increases the chance of developing wrinkles earlier.UV light breaks down the collagen and elastin fibers in the skin. These fibers form the skin's connective tissue. They are located under the surface of the skin, and they support the skin. Breaking down this layer causes the skin to become weaker and less flexible. The skin starts to droop, and wrinkles appear.Clothes that cover the body, such as hats and long sleeves, may delay the development of wrinkles.People who work in the sunlight have a higher chance of early wrinkles. Jobs that involve this type of exposure include fishing and farming. Sailors, golfers, beach lifeguards, and gardeners may also be more prone to skin aging.Regular smoking accelerates the aging process of skin, because of the reduced blood supply to the skin. Alcohol dehydrates the skin, and dry skin is more likely to wrinkle.

SUNTAN

Any time your skin is not protected by sunscreen or clothes and gets too much sun, it can burn or tan. But why do some people get a sunburn and others get a suntan? You have something called melanin in your skin. It's the stuff that gives your skin its color. People who have dark skin have more melanin. People who have light skin have less. Here's how melanin makes your skin burn or tan:
·         Your body normally makes melanin to try to protect the deeper layers of your skin from damage.
·         When your skin gets damaged by the sun's rays, it makes even more melanin to try to protect your skin from being damaged even more. That causes the skin to change color:
    • Dark-skinned people usually turn darker brown, or tan, when they go in the sun.
    • Light-skinned people usually turn more red, or burn, when they go in the sun.

Besides tanning or burning, a lot of people also get uneven patches of color, or freckles.Even if you have naturally dark skin or never burn and always tan, that still means the sun is damaging your skin. And you can still get skin cancer and wrinkles some day.For all skin, hair and nail ailments visit our clinics at Malad,Juhu and Bandra in Mumbai.Call 9004839333 for appointments.

DANDRUFF

Dandruff is a condition marked by flakes of dry skin on the scalp. The flakes can often fall from your hair and land on your shoulders. Dandruff usually results from a dry scalp. If this is the cause, the flakes are typically small and you may have dry skin on other parts of your body.Washing your hair with a harsh shampoo or using a lot of chemicals on your hair can sometimes irritate your scalp and lead to flakes.A fairly common condition called seborrheic dermatitis is the cause of many dandruff cases. It’s characterized by patches of red and oily skin that leave yellowish flakes on the scalp. These flakes are often larger than dandruff flakes that occur from dry skin. Seborrheic dermatitis can also cause flaky, irritated patches elsewhere on your body, which may lead you to think you have psoriasis. For all skin, hair and nail ailments visit our clinics at Malad,Juhu and Bandra in Mumbai.Call 9004839333 for appointments.

SKIN REJUVENATION

Sun, skin disorders, aging and even heredity can all contribute to skin irregularities on the face and elsewhere on the body. These include textural irregularities like wrinkles and acne scars, pigmentation changes like freckles and sunspots, or visible blood vessels.
In addition, skin may lose tone, feel less firm, and certain areas of the body may develop cellulite conditions.
Conditions that can be treated with skin rejuvenation and resurfacing include:

  • Static wrinkles: These wrinkles are visible at all times and do not change in appearance with facial movements
  • Dynamic wrinkles: These are expression lines that may appear as folds when the skin is not moving, and deepen with facial movements or expressions
  • Pigmentation: Freckles, sun spots, or other darkened patches of skin result mainly from sun exposure
  • Scars: As the result of acne or injury to the skin, scars may be rolling (a wavy appearance to the skin), pitted, discolored, or have raised borders
  • Vascular conditions: Blood vessels visible on the surface of the skin, vascular lesions that appear as tiny blood-filled blisters or even a constant flush of facial redness
  • Loss of skin tone: Weakening of the supportive skin structures (collagen and elastin fibers) that result in a loss of skin firmness or the development of cellulite. For  appointments and queries call 9004839333.Clinics at Malad,Juhu and Bandra.

ALLERGY

An allergy is a reaction by your immune system to something that does not bother most other people. People who have allergies often are sensitive to more than one thing. Substances that often cause reactions are
·         Pollen
·         Dust mites
·         Mold spores
·         Pet dander
·         Food
·         Insect stings
·         Medicines

Normally, your immune system fights germs. It is your body's defense system. In most allergic reactions, however, it is responding to a false alarm. Genes and the environment probably both play a role.It is necessary to visit a board certified dermatologist for Allergy treatment.Call 9004839333 for appointments.Clinics at Malad,Juhu and Bandra in Mumbai.

PIMPLES

A pimple is a small pustule or papule. Pimples develop when sebaceous glands, or oil glands, become clogged and infected, leading to swollen, red lesions filled with pus.
Also known as spots or zits, pimples are a part of acne. They are most likely to occur around puberty, but they can happen at any age.
During puberty, hormone production changes. This can cause the sebaceous glands, located at the base of hair follicles, to become overactive. As a result, pimples are most likely to occur during the teenage years and around menstruation, for women.
Pimples most often affect the face, back, chest, and shoulders. This is because there are many sebaceous glands in these areas of skin.
Acne vulgaris, the main cause of pimples, affects over 80 percent of teenagers. After the age of 25 years, it affects 3 percent of men and 12 percent of women.

CHEMICAL PEELS

Chemical peel can improve the skin's appearance. In this treatment, a chemical solution is applied to the skin, which makes it "blister" and eventually peel off. The new skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin.
Chemical peels can be done on the face, neck, or hands. They can be used to:
  • Reduce fine lines under the eyes and around the mouth Treat wrinkles caused by sun damage and aging
  • Improve the appearance of mild scars
  • Treat certain types of acnes Reduce age spots, freckles, and dark patches (melasma) due to pregnancy or taking birth control  pills. Improve the look and feel of skin

Areas of sun damage may improve after chemical peeling. For more details call 9004839333,clinics at Malad,Juhu and Bandra in Mumbai.

WHAT IS AN ALLERGY?

An allergic reaction begins in the immune system. Our immune system protects us from invading organisms that can cause illness. If you have an allergy, your immune system mistakes an otherwise harmless substance as an invader. This substance is called an allergen. The immune system overreacts to the allergen by producing antibodies. These antibodies travel to cells that release chemicals, causing an allergic reaction.
A number of different allergens are responsible for allergic reactions. The most common include:
•    Pollen
•    Dust
•    Food
•    Insect stings
•    Animal dander
•    Mold
•    Medications
•    Latex

We have different allergy profiles to detect the type of allergy and its severity.Allergy is done by blood test.If you know your allergy you can easily avoid it.If you wantyour allergy profile to be done please contact us on 9004839333.Our clinics at Malad,Juhu and Bandra in Mumbai

TYPES OF ACNE SCARS

Acne scarring need not necessarily be of one type. The more severe scarring on the skin is usually known as an 'ice pick'. These scars are jagged and shallow or deep like ice pick stabs. They occur as a result of deep tissue loss from deep, nodular acne.

Follicular Macular Atrophy
They are small, soft and white lesions which look like tiny whiteheads just under the surface of your skin. They tend to appear on your chest and back.

Atrophic Macules
These are soft and sometimes wrinkled and can also turn blue in appearance because of blood vessels which lie directly under the scar.

Soft scars
They have sloping or rolling edges that seem to merge
with your normal skin. They are most often circular, linear or small.

Depressed Fibrotic scars
These scars are steep, large and sharp. Ice pick scars over time can also develop to be depressed fibrotic scars.

SYMPTOMS OF SCABIES

The onset of symptoms of scabies varies depending on whether or not a person has previously been exposed to mites. The first time a person is exposed to the scabies mite, it can take upwards of 2-6weeks for symptoms to develop.
This timeframe is significantly shorter in subsequent infestations as the body's immune system is quicker to react (typically in 1-4 days).
Signs and symptoms of scabies include:
§  Itching - this is often worse at night and can be severe and intense. Itching is one of the most common scabies symptoms.
§  Rash - when the mite burrows into the skin, it forms burrow tracks, or lines, which are most commonly found in skin folds, and resemble hives, bites, knots, pimples, or patches of scaly skin. Blisters may also be present.
§  Sores - these occur in infested areas where a person has scratched at the skin. Open sores can lead to impetigo, commonly caused by secondary infection with Staphylococcus aureus.
§  Thick crusts - crusted scabies, also known as Norwegian scabies, is a form of severe scabies in which hundreds to thousands of mites and mite eggs are harbored within skin crusts, causing severe skin symptoms.

Most often, those affected with crusted scabies exhibit widespread, gray, thick, crumbling crusts.Visit  our  clinics  at  Malad,Juhu and Bandra in Mumbai for all skin, hair and nail ailments.Call 9004839333 for appointments.

BABIES AND RINGWORM

  • ·         What is ringworm?
A contagious fungal infection of the skin, ringworm   appears as a circular or ring-shaped rash. It usually begins as a small, itchy, red or scaly patch, and can spread  to other parts of the body including the scalp. At times, several rings appear close together and merge.
    ·         How can  a baby get ringworm?
A baby probably can get ringworm from an infected person or pet, or touching contaminated  toys or clothes. He could have also got it from swimming in a pool or crawling on infected soil in a garden or park. Excessive sweating, caused by the humidity, increases the chances of picking up ringworm.
Make sure to cut your baby's nails to avoid infecting the rash. Also, try to keep your baby's skin clean and dry. Try not   to dress your baby in clothes with synthetic fabric or material that can irritate the infected skin.

FUNGAL INFECTION

Onychomycosis, also called tinea unguium, is a fungal infection that affects either the fingernails or toenails. Fungal infections normally develop over time, so any immediate difference in the way your nail looks or feels may be too subtle to notice at first.

Why Does It Develop?

A fungal nail infection occurs from the overgrowth of fungi in, under, or on the nail. Fungi thrive in warm, moist environments, so this type of environment can cause them to naturally overpopulate. The same fungi that cause jock itch, athlete’s foot, and ringworm can cause nail infections.
Fungi that are already present in or on your body can cause nail infections. If you have come in contact with someone else who has a fungal infection, it may have spread to you.Fungal infections affect toenails more commonly than fingernails because your toes are usually confined to your shoes, where they’re in a warm, moist environment.

If you get a manicure or pedicure at a nail salon, be sure to ask how the staff disinfects their tools and how often they do it. Tools, such as emery boards and nail clippers, can spread fungal infections from person-to-person if they’re not sanitized. For all skin, hair and nail ailments visit our clinics at Malad,Juhu and Bandra in Mumbai.

CAUSES OF ALLERGY

The risk of an allergic reaction is dependent on either host or environmental factors. An allergy is dependent on its host when the person is genetically predisposed for that allergy, either through inherited disease or congenital deficiency. An environmentally-dependent allergy is triggered when the person comes in contact with an infectious disease, an airborne allergen, pollution, or if they change their diet.

Genetic Causes

A parent with an allergy is more likely to pass it to their child, and the child's allergy is also likely to be more severe. Identical twins will share the same allergy 70% of the time.

Environmental Causes

A person is more likely to suffer from an allergy if they live in a highly industrialized country, such as factory-heavy regions. On the national level, allergies are more common in an individual that lives in an urban area as opposed to a rural area.

WHAT IS HEAT RASH?

Key points

1.     The neck, shoulders, and chest are the most common places for prickly heat to appear.
2.     Make sure to change out of sweaty or wet clothing right away after experiencing intense heat to prevent prickly heat rash.
3.     Common remedies for prickly heat include applying calamine lotion and wearing loose-fitting clothing.
The condition that we call prickly heat, also known as heat rash, happens to adults and children when sweat becomes trapped under the skin. Prickly heat is sometimes called “sweat rash” or by its diagnostic name, miliaria rubra. Children tend to be more affected than adults because their sweat glands are still developing.

Symptoms

The symptoms of prickly heat are fairly straightforward. Red bumps and itching occur in an area where sweat has been trapped underneath layers of your skin. The neck, shoulders, and chest are the most common places for prickly heat to appear. Folds of skin and places where your clothing rubs your skin are also areas where prickly heat might occur. The area of irritation might display a reaction right away, or it might take a few days to develop on your skin.
Sometimes prickly heat will take the form of a patch of very small blisters, which is your skin reacting to the sweat that has leaked between its layers. Other times the area of your body where sweat is trapped might appear swollen or itch persistently.
In case of heat rashes using prickly heat powder ,wearing cotton clothes may ease it,but if the problem persists visit your nearest dermatologist.Self medication is hazardous.Call 9004839333 for appointments at our clinics at Malad,Juhu and Bandra in Mumbai.

ALL ABOUT FINGER NAILS

Your fingernails — composed of laminated layers of a protein called keratin — grow from the area at the base of the nail under your cuticle. Healthy fingernails are smooth, without pits or grooves. They're uniform in color and consistency and free of spots or discoloration.
Sometimes fingernails develop harmless vertical ridges that run from the cuticle to the tip of the nail. Vertical ridges tend to become more prominent with age. Fingernails can also develop white lines or spots due to injury, but these eventually grow out with the nail.
Not all nail conditions are normal, however. Consult your dermatologist if you notice:
·         Changes in nail color, such as discoloration of the entire nail or a dark streak under the nail
·         Changes in nail shape, such as curled nails
·         Thinning or thickening of the nails
·         Separation of the nail from the surrounding skin
·         Bleeding around the nails
·         Swelling or pain around the nails

Fingernail care: Do's and don'ts

To keep your fingernails looking their best:
·         Keep fingernails dry and clean. This prevents bacteria from growing under your fingernails. Repeated or prolonged contact with water can contribute to split fingernails. Wear cotton-lined rubber gloves when washing dishes, cleaning or using harsh chemicals.
·         Practice good nail hygiene. Use a sharp manicure scissors or clippers. Trim your nails straight across, then round the tips in a gentle curve.
·         Use moisturizer. When you use hand lotion, rub the lotion into your fingernails and cuticles, too.
·         Apply a protective layer. Applying a nail hardener might help strengthen nails.
·         Consumption of biotin.  The nutritional supplement biotin might help strengthen weak or brittle fingernails after consultation from a board certified Dermatologist.

WHAT IA ALLERGY?

An allergy refers to an exaggerated reaction by the immune system in response to exposure to certain foreign substances. The response is exaggerated because these foreign substances are normally seen by the body as harmless in nonallergic individuals and do not cause a response in them. In allergic individuals, the body recognizes the foreign substance, and the allergic part of the immune system generates a response.
Allergy-producing substances are called "allergens." Examples of allergens include pollens, dust mites, molds, animal proteins, foods, and medications. When an allergic individual comes in contact with an allergen, the immune system mounts a response through the IgE antibody. People who are prone to allergies are said to be allergic or "atopic.

For allergy treatments and testing  call  9004839333.Clinics at Malad,Juhu and Bandra in Mumbai.
