Dandruff is a condition marked by flakes of dry skin on the
scalp. The flakes can often fall from your hair and land on your shoulders.
Dandruff usually results from a dry scalp. If this is the cause, the flakes are
typically small and you may have dry skin on other parts of your body.Washing
your hair with a harsh shampoo or using a lot of chemicals on your hair can
sometimes irritate your scalp and lead to flakes.A fairly common condition
called seborrheic dermatitis is the cause of many dandruff cases. It’s
characterized by patches of red and oily skin that leave yellowish flakes on
the scalp. These flakes are often larger than dandruff flakes that occur from
dry skin. Seborrheic dermatitis can also cause flaky, irritated patches elsewhere
on your body, which may lead you to think you have psoriasis. For all skin, hair

CHICKENPOX
An itchy rash is the most common symptom of chickenpox. The
infection will have to be in your body for around seven to 21 days before the
rash and other symptoms develop. You start to be contagious to those around you
up to 48 hours before the skin rash starts to occur.
The non-rash symptoms may last a few days and include:
·
Fever
·
Headache
·
Loss of appetite
One or two days after you experience these symptoms, the classic
rash will begin to develop. The rash goes through three phases before you
recover. These include:
·
You develop red or pink bumps all over your body.
·
The bumps become blisters filled with fluid that leaks.
·
The bumps become crusty, scab over, and begin to heal.
The bumps on your body will not all be in the same phase at the
same time. New bumps will continuously appear throughout your infection. The
rash may be very itchy, especially before it scabs over with a crust. You are
still contagious until all the blisters on your body have scabbed over. The
crusty scabbed areas eventually fall off.

WHAT IS AN ALLERGY?
An allergic reaction begins in the immune
system. Our immune system protects us from invading organisms that can cause
illness. If you have an allergy, your immune system mistakes an otherwise
harmless substance as an invader. This substance is called an allergen. The
immune system overreacts to the allergen by producing antibodies. These
antibodies travel to cells that release chemicals, causing an allergic reaction.
A number of different
allergens are responsible for allergic reactions. The most common include:
• Pollen
• Dust
• Food
• Insect stings
• Animal dander
• Mold
• Medications
• Latex

CAUSES OF HAIR LOSS
Women who suffer from
androgenetic alopecia may lose large amounts of hair. Though this type of hair
loss is more common in older women, it can occur at any age, including the
teenage years. Thyroid disorders, anemia and pregnancy can cause young females
to lose their hair. Young women may also lose their hair due to skin conditions
such as seborrheic dermatitis and scalp psoriasis. Women who suffer from
polycystic ovarian syndrome may also lose their hair at a young age.
Hormonal
imbalances due to circumstances such as childbirth can cause temporary hair
loss in young females. Autoimmune conditions such as alopecia areata, which is
a condition that causes the woman's immune system to attack her hair follicles,
causes hair loss in young women. Young females may also lose their hair due to
ringworm infections on the scalp or conditions such as scarring alopecia.
Medications
used to treat cancer, high blood pressure and heart problems may cause hair
loss in young women. Some birth control pills could also cause a woman to lose
greater amounts of her hair. Radiation therapy to the head, hairstyles that
pull the hair tight, hot oil treatments that cause inflammation of hair
follicles, and trigger events such as stress, emotional shock and excessive
weight loss may cause hair loss in young women.
Young women
who suffer from trichotillomania, which is a hair-pulling disorder, often lose
large amounts of hair. For more information and appointments call 9004839333 at

MOLES
A mole or nevus is a
dark, raised spot on our skin comprised of skin cells that have grown in a
group rather than individually. These cells are called melanocytes and are
responsible for producing melanin, the pigment (color) in our skin.
Moles can form from sun
exposure, but we are also born with them, inheriting them genetically. Although
number of moles varies from person to person, fair skinned people generally
have more moles due to lower amounts of melanin in their skin, and the average
adult has between 10 and 40 moles. Moles can even come and go with hormonal
changes such as pregnancy or puberty.
Most people develop more
moles on their skin naturally with age and sun exposure, and — most of the time
— these moles are harmless. However, we need to conduct skin checks regularly
(recommended monthly, especially if you have a
relative with skin
cancer, or at least every three months) to see if our moles have changed.

WHAT IS ALOPECIA?
Alopecia areata is
"a common condition of undetermined etiology characterized by
circumscribed, nonscarring, usually asymmetric areas of baldness on
the scalp, eyebrows, and bearded portion of the face."
In the majority of
cases, hair falls out in small patches around the size of a quarter. For most
people, the hair loss is nothing more than a few patches,
though in some cases it can be more extreme.
Sometimes, it can lead
to the complete loss of hair on the scalp (alopecia totalis ) or, in extreme
cases, the entire body (alopecia universalis).
Alopecia areata is considered to be an autoimmune disease, where
the immune system mistakenly attacks the body's own cells instead of harmful
foreign invaders.
In the case of alopecia
areata, the immune system attacks the hair follicles causing inflammation, which leads to hair
loss. For appointments call 9004839333,Clinics at Malad,Juhu and Bandra in

PIGMENTATION
Normal skin contains cells called
melanocytes. These cells produce Melanin,
the substance that gives skin its color.
Skin
with too much melanin is called hyperpigmented skin.
Skin
with too little melanin is called hypopigmented skin.
Pale skin areas are due to too little
melanin or underactive melanocytes. Darker areas of skin (or an area that tans
more easily) occurs when you have more melanin or overactive melanocytes.
Bronzing
of the skin may sometimes be mistaken for a suntan. This skin discoloration
often develops slowly, starting at the elbows, knuckles, and knees and
spreading from there. Bronzing may also be seen on the soles of the feet and
the palms of the hands. The bronze color can range from light to dark (in
fair-skinned people) with the degree of darkness due to the underlying cause.
Causes
Causes

·
Skin
inflammation (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation)
·

WHAT ARE WRINKLES?
Wrinkles are creases, folds, or ridges in the skin. They normally appear
as people get older, but they can also develop after spending a long time in
water.
The first wrinkles to appear on a person's face tend to occur as
a result of facial expressions.
Sun damage, smoking, dehydration, some medications, and
environmental and genetic factors affect when and where people will develop
wrinkles.
Most wrinkles tend to appear in the parts of the body which
receive the most sun exposure, especially the face and neck, the back of the
hands, and the arms.
Most people do not welcome wrinkles, and billions of dollars are
spent globally on treatments to remove or delay them.
The following steps may help slow the process down:
Avoiding excessive sun exposure reduces skin damage, because the
sun causes the skin to age faster. Hats, protective clothing, and sun screens
can protect the skin from wrinkles by reducing sunlight damage.
Zero exposure to
sunlight totally is not recommended, however, because it is a vital source of Vitamin D and vitamin D is essential for
bone strength and other aspects of health. Some sunscreens can protect the skin while allowing
vitamin D to be synthesized.
Moisturizers do not prevent wrinkles, but they may help
temporarily make tiny lines and creases less evident.
Quitting smoking can prevent the accelerated aging of
skin. Even a long-term heavy smoker can slow down the process by giving up.
Avoid alcohol because it dehydrates the body and the skin.
Sleeping at least 7 hours a night, eating healthily and
exercising regularly help to maintain overall health, and this may include skin
quality.

NAIL CARE
In order to understand both how to keep
your nails healthy and how they can act as an indicator of health problems,
first you have to know that fingernails are made of layers of a protein called
keratin. This protein is also found in your skin and hair But your nails are
more than just keratin. Your nails comprise several different components:
·
The nail plate is
the part of the nail that you can see.
·
The skin around your nails
is referred to as nail folds.
·
The skin that is covered by
your nail is known as a nail bed.
·
A cuticle is the tissue that covers the bottom
of your nail to protect newly formed keratin as your nail grows.
·
The white half-moon seen at
the base of your nail is called a lunula.
Basic nail care is fairly simple, and contributes greatly to
overall nail health. By incorporating nail care into your normal routine, it
also allows you to grow familiar enough with your normal nail health to notice
when abnormal issues arise.
The first step is to keep your nails clean
and dry to prevent bacterial and fungal infections, and never cut or remove
your cuticles, as this can cause infections. Improve the strength of your nails
by trimming them straight across and rounding them slightly with a nail file.
This also helps to prevent ingrown fingernails. File nail snags as soon as
possible to prevent them from catching on things such as clothing, which can
tear the nail into the nail bed .Prevent damage by rubbing hand lotion into
your nails and nail bed. This will help to strengthen your nails and prevent
splitting. Also, try to avoid using your nails to pick or pry at things, as
this can also cause damage to your nails.
One
of the most important things you can do is not bite your nails. As mentioned
earlier, nail biting can cause infections not only around your nails, but also
in your mouth. Chronic nail biting can lead to abnormal nail growth, and even
nail deformities. To prevent nail biting, try applying acrylic nails or use a
bitter-tasting polish until you are able to break the habit.
Whether you wear them short and unpolished
or use them to express your personality by adorning them with color and jewels,
nails -- and their health -- are important, so don't neglect them. Not only are
they a canvas for self-expression, they also tell us when we might be ill, so
be sure to give your fingernails the attention they deserve. For appointments

ACNES
Imagine if you wake up in the
morning and first thing you see is a red mark on your face. It can be inflammatory
or non inflammatory or could be pimple or acne. Don’t panic, it can be cured if
you bring some changes in your routine along with the on-going medication.
1. Emergency
Acne Kit
Foremost thing that needs to be
done, is to get connected with your dermatologist. He/She will guide you about
the role of some medications and their usage in day to day to life.
It is not only one thing that
contributes to healthy skin and you. It is a combination of good habits which
can help you lead a healthy life.
2. Have a clear eating plan
ELIMINATE all
high glycemic index foods whose numbers are above 70 such as refined products
like pasta, white breads, biscuits, noodles, pizzas. Say “no” to fried cooking
methods as well fried food items like chips, pakora(sounds very yummy, trust me
its nutritional value is zero). Limit the intake of too much sugar and sugar
sweetened beverages, they just add unwanted fat to your lifestyle , ultimately
it can add bad effect to your skin in the form of acne, pimples , dull skin etc.
ADD low
glycemic index so that it won’t spike your blood sugar fast. Add more of home
cooked meals made up of whole grains , cereals like used more “atta plus fiber”
based options like if you are still craving for bread, opt for multigrain. Try
to choose healthy food ingredients.Include 2 to 3 servings of vegetables and
fruits in your diet.
ADD Antioxidants
like more of vitamin C, E,. Rich sources of vitamin C are oranges, amla, green
chilies, broccoli, lemons, papaya, strawberries and some more green vegetables.
Nuts, seeds , fish contain good amount of vitamin E.
ADD good
fat in your diet - omega 3 fatty acids. They are present in seeds, nuts,
various oils like olive oil and mustard oil.
Try to
include low fat dairy products in diet. Probiotic curd is a good option
as it contains good bacteria which is healthy for your stomach that can help
you with skin breakouts.
3. Keep yourself
hydrated
Keep sipping water throughout the
day. It should not be more or less. The recommended level is 10 -12 glasses in a
day. Fluids could be plain water or green tea. This will make your skin supple,
clear and free of toxins.
For appointments call 9004839333.Clinics at Malad,Juhu and Bandra in Mumbai.

DARK CIRCLES
Are you sick of people always telling you that you look
exhausted. You get enough sleep and you drink lots of
water but those dark
circles still cause stares and make you look much older than you
really are.
Dark circles is one of the major concerns for
women seeking treatment for cosmetic reasons.
What are the reasons for dark circles?
It’s a combination of heredity and
genetics, fatigue and dehydration, but most likely the culprit causing chronic
dark circles is excess skin pigmentation which happens because of ethnic
variation for Indian population.
Sun exposure increases the chances
of dark circles.
Also, dark circles are related to
dilated blood vessels and aging – which causes skin to thin and can darken the
area. Unfortunately, to erase them completely is not possible. However, you can
minimize their effects by knowing their causes, finding good solutions and
choosing the right products.
How to treat them?
1) Protection: Use an SPF 30
sunscreen daily. A moisturizer as a base and a concealer can also be used to
cover up as a protective layer ( camouflage + protection)
2) Diet changes: If you have puffy
eye bags along with dark circles then reducing salt intake can help in reducing
the puffiness.
3) Don't rub the eyes, as rubbing
makes it darker
4) Use of eye brightening serums
every night will help in reducing the lines around the eyes and eventually
helps in fading the dark circles
5) A
dermatologist's consultation and under eye treatments available at the
dermatologist clinic should be considered if everything else fails.

WHAT IA ALLERGY?
An allergy refers to an exaggerated reaction by the immune
system in response to exposure to certain foreign substances. The response is
exaggerated because these foreign substances are normally seen by the body as
harmless in nonallergic individuals and do not cause a response in them. In
allergic individuals, the body recognizes the foreign substance, and the allergic
part of the immune system generates a response.
Allergy-producing substances are called "allergens."
Examples of allergens include pollens, dust mites, molds, animal proteins,
foods, and medications. When an allergic individual comes in contact with an allergen, the immune system mounts a response through the IgE
antibody. People who are prone to allergies are said to be allergic or
"atopic.

CUCUMBER -A SUPER ANTI AGEING FOOD
Vegetables
are wonderful for maintaining healthy skin
10 reasons why you should include cucumber to your diet
10 reasons why you should include cucumber to your diet
Cucumbers are said to have the
following benefits: potential antidiabetic, antioxidant activity, cleansing
action of toxins and waste, soothing effect against skin irritation, and
prevention of constipation. And here are 10 health benefits of cucumbers in more
details.
1. Help you stay hydrated
Cucumbers
are 95.2 percent water, which means that a 5-ounce serving contains 4.8 ounces
or 150 ml water. That’s already about 26 percent of your daily water intake
through food.
2. Support heart health
Cucumbers contain potassium (152mg per cup), which can help lower
blood pressure. A review of the best studies conducted on potassium intake
showed that a higher intake “is associated with lower rates of stroke and might
also reduce the risk of total cardiovascular disease.”
3. Protect your brain from
neurological diseases
An anti-inflammatory substance
called fisetin is present in cucumbers, as well as strawberries and grapes
It has recently been suggested that fisetin
plays an important role in brain health: It would have “the ability to reduce
the impact of age-related neurological diseases on brain function,” and it
would also help maintain cognitive function in people with Alzeimer’s disease.
4. Protect your skin against the
effects of aging
There is a reason why cucumbers
are used in skin care: They have been shown to be effective as a potential
anti-wrinkle agent in cosmetic products, protecting our skin form the effects
of aging.
5. Fight inflammation in the body and reduce the risk of Cancer.
Cucumbers
can help lower the inflammatory response in the body. They contain polyphenols
called lignans, which can potentially reduce the risk of certain cancers and
cardiovascular diseases.
They also contain plant nutrients
called cucurbitacins, which have anti-cancer properties: “Scientists have
already determined that several different signaling pathways required for
cancer cell development and survival can be blocked by activity of
cucurbitacins.”
6. Relieve Pain
Flavonoids,
which are anti-inflammatory substances, and tannins
in cucumbers have both been shown to limit the release of free radicals in the
body and to reduce pain.
As explained in the Journal of
Young Pharmacists, “traditionally, this plant is used for headaches; the seeds
are cooling and diuretic, the
fruit juice is used as a nutritive and as a demulcent in anti-acne lotions.”
7. Reduce bad breath
Bad breath is usually caused by bacteria in the
mouth. Fiber and water-rich vegetables
like cucumbers can boost your
mouth’s saliva production, which in turn helps wash away the bacteria that
cause the odor in the mouth.
8. Protect your bones
Cucumber are a good source of
vitamin K: One cup contains 22 percent of the recommended daily intake of
vitamin K. This vitamin is essential for bone health, as low vitamin K intakes
have been associated with a higher risk for bone fracture. Vitamin K is also important for improving calcium absorption in the bones
9.
Prevent constipation
Cucumbers
are rich in water, and their skin contains insoluble fiber. Both water and
fiber help food to move through the digestive tract quicker and more easily,
helping prevent constipation.
10. Maintain a healthy weight
Cucumbers
are very low in calories (16 calories per cup) and they also contain fiber in
the skin. And foods that contain fiber can help maintain a healthy weight

LIPOSUCTION
Liposuction removes fat from your body
using suction. During liposuction, small, thin, blunt-tipped tubes (cannula)
are inserted through tiny cuts in the skin.
Fat is suctioned out through these tubes as the doctor moves the tubes around
under the skin to target specific fat deposits.
In recent years, improved techniques have
made liposuction safer, easier, and less painful. These newer techniques
include:
Tumescent
liposuction. A local anesthetic is used to numb the area of your body
where the tube will be inserted.
Ultrasound
assisted liposuction. This
technique uses ultrasound to liquefy the fat, which makes it
easier to remove. This technique may be particularly helpful in removing fat
from the neck, upper abdomen,
sides, and back.
Laser-assisted
liposuction. This technique uses
low-energy waves to liquefy the fat, which is removed through a small cannula.
Liposuction is usually done as an outpatient procedure in a properly equipped
doctor's office, ambulatory surgery center, or hospital. In general, it does
not require an overnight hospital stay unless a large volume of fat is being
removed. Local anesthesia is used in some cases. And you may or may not be
given a sedative to help you relax. If a large area or volume of fat is being
treated, general anesthesia or deep sedation with a local anesthetic may be
used.So it is important to get it done by a certified Cosmetologist. For queries

WHAT DOES A DERMATOLOGIST DO?
A
dermatologist is a doctor who specializes in treating the:
- Skin.
- Hair.
- Nails.
- Mucous membranes (e.g., lining
inside the mouth, nose, and eyelids.)
Dermatologists
diagnose and treat more than 3,000 different diseases. These diseases include
skin cancer, eczema, acne, psoriasis, and nail infections.
Dermatologists also
improve the appearance of their patients' skin, hair, and nails. For example, a
dermatologist can help patients:
- Diminish wrinkles, age spots,
and other signs of aging.
- Have less noticeable acne scars.
- Look more like themselves after
surgery to remove skin cancer.
Dermatologists see patients of all ages — from newborns to people older than 100
years of age. Many patients read on internet and apply
medicines without consulting dermatologist which aggravates problems and leads
more damage to skin, hair and nails. So it is advisable to visit a qualified
dermatologist before using any medicine.
For queries and
appointments call 9004839333,clinics at Malad,Juhu and Bandra.
